Can you prevent coronavirus? It is possible.
Most of us are affected by COVID-19, in one way or another. Even if you never get it, you might not be able to find toilet paper at your local store. And other supplies. As rational people, we just need to take the necessary precautions so we don’t get it or other viruses, like the flu. I found some research from some Chinese researchers (Chen et. al, 2020) on why Coronavirus COVID-19 becomes serious or even kills and what we can do to prevent coronavirus and prevent it from becoming deadly.
I think we’ve all heard to wash our hands anytime we touch something. And wear a mask if you aren’t feeling well. And we know that it affects seniors and those with underlying conditions a lot harder. Chinese medicine offers some natural immunity boosters for more protection and a better chance to either prevent this or reduce the severity.
The Chinese researchers believe the part of Coronavirus that becomes serious or even kills is called a cytokine storm. What that means is the immune system seems to get out of whack when afflicted with this virus. The triggers to get certain cells into action is exaggerated, which can cause the immune system to actually attack the body itself. So this means that the stronger our immune system is to begin with, the better we can deal with this stress to our immune system. The Chinese have been dealing with this the longest and have more research than anyone. Let’s talk about what they have found.
Prevention via Supplements
There are a few medical treatments for cytokine storms but treating COVID-19 is still somewhat experimental. Chen et.al (2020) mentioned a few natural Chinese medicines that can block the virus from entering cells and triggering the overzealous immune system reaction. I’m including a few more immune system boosters in addition to the Chinese medicine suggestions.
Astragalus is an herb of the legume family. It is also known as goats-thorn, locoweed, and milkvetch. It contains isoflavone flavonoids and saponins which are the factors making it great for fighting viruses. If you are allergic to peanuts or other legumes, best to avoid Astragalus. It is said it can affect blood sugar and blood pressure so check with your doctor first if you have issues with those. I’m taking it and it is fine for me.
Vitamin D3 is an excellent immune system builder. Very few people get enough sun to make the amount of Vitamin D3 we need. You’d need to live near the equator, where you can actually get enough sun to make enough Vitamin D3. Some report they don’t get sick with colds or flu since taking Vitamin D3. The toxicity level is 40,000 IU’s per day after taking for 12 weeks at that strength. So, it’s a very safe supplement. I highly recommend it. This wasn’t in the Chinese article but it is great for the immune system. You’ll be totally safe taking 5,000 – 10,000 IU per day.
Ginseng, and especially Panax Ginseng, has remarkable immune system boosting powers. It is especially good for bronchial infections and people with chronic bronchitis or cystic fibrosis, making it excellent for preventing and even treating COVID-19. Here are a couple to choose from:
Turmeric is an anti-oxidant and supplement. It’s really a spice, often used in Indian recipes and also in dill pickles. It’s not on the Chinese list but it is fantastic for your immune system and, of course, your brain.
I hope this information helps you stay well. Follow your local government’s guidelines for prevention and wash your hands… every time you touch someone or something. Even if you think you’re strong and safe, we need to be thoughtful of our vulnerable population.
You can help yourself stay well by boosting your immune system. Do it for your brain too.
